Understanding the 2026 Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Adjustments
As of June 1 2026 NOAA Fisheries has implemented updated daily retention limits for recreational Atlantic bluefin tuna fishing. These changes which remain in effect through December 31 2026 provide distinct bag limits based on vessel type to better manage the fishery.
The adjusted regulations establish specific limits per vessel per trip for fish measuring 27in to less than 73in in curved fork length. Private vessels operating under an HMS Angling permit may now retain up to two bluefin tuna per trip.
